Confocal laser endomicroscopy is a newly introduced endoscopic tool that makes it possible to carry out confocal microscopic examinations during ongoing endoscopy. The technique was pioneerd by and is being researched at the first medical department of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. Our task was to introduce and showcase this new technology to an international audience of physicians. An explanation of the technology is paired with an interactive learning tool fostering both interest and an insight into clinical applications.
The Quiz
This application was constructed for congresses and exhibitions. Visitors to the booth are engaged in a brief tutorial and may then test their aquired knowledge.
We decided on a completly black background for the application. Then prepared and presented the Pentax images so as to create an "eyecatcher" effect for the exhibition booth.
The application runs offline in full screen mode, the user makes his or her way through a series of questions and their results. The data for the quiz was taken from existing Powerpoint presentations.
The Endomicroscopy Portal
The website consists of two main sections. While the first section contains information and clinical data about relevant technology, the second section presents "Case Studies" through which the visitor may engage in real life cases and experience the application of the technology with our developed interactive Learning Tool.
To help keep this application as intuitive as possible, we decided to accomadate all actions and examples within one window. The user may select from various picture and video sources for each case.
Besides the development of the interactive learning tool one of the main challenges was the editorial work.
